Fall OOTD

It's layering season! I love Fall and almost everything that comes with it, except for the decreasing temperature we've been having the past few days. I'm really not a big fan of the cold weather and it seems like every year is getting colder sooner and sooner.

So before heading to the store, I filmed a quick OOTD just to share with you guys because it feels like I haven't done one in forever. This is just an everyday casual outfit that you can throw on for quickly for school or to run errands, etc.

Because the outfit was mostly made up of earth toned colors, I absolutely loved the pop of color the scarf adds to the outfit. It brightened up my complexion and it brought life to my outfit.

I hope you guys enjoyed it! See ya next time! ;)

Pretty Purple Gradient Nails

Here is a quick tutorial on how to achieve pretty purple gradient nails. I did this to my nails a while ago and got so many compliments. Some even asked me if it was airbrushed, but I told them, "Nope, I just did it myself with a makeup sponge." ;)

It looks gorgeous on the nails and I think purple is a great color for the fall. I know there are hundreds of tutorials already, but this is my quick tutorial on how to achieve this. It is way easier than it looks! ;)

OOTD: To a Wedding

This weekend, I attended my husband's cousin's wedding and it was such a beautiful sight with so much love and laughter. I had a wonderful time there and I wish the best to both the bride and groom!

I've been on the hunt to find a nice dress since weeks ago, but I could never find the perfect one. Each one I tried on looked a little too prom-ish, too club-ish, or just too casual that I had an extremely hard time. The night before the wedding, I decided to settle with a violet dress that I wasn't really feeling but an hour later, I found this one and I literally fell in love with it when I tried it on.

As I was heading out the door to the wedding, I realized I wanted to film a quick outfit of the day to share what I was wearing with you all, therefore, that explains the bad lighting. This was also my husband's first time filming an OOTD video so he hasn't gotten used to focusing the camera when he zooms in and out, but oh well.. With time and practice anyone can become better at anything!

Dress: Unfortunately I don't know the name of the store. It was my first time there and I was in a rush so didn't bother to look at the name. =/
Shoes: Burlington Coat Factory
Necklace: Forever 21
Earrings: Jewelmint
Ring: Forever 21

Disclaimer: All the items mentioned in this video was purchased by me with my own money.

A few pictures to share with you all! ;)

The sweetest man in my life ♥

I respect the privacy of others', therefore I decided to only post pictures of myself and my husband at the wedding. I hope you guys enjoyed my OOTD! Have a wonderful week! ;)

AE, Forever 21, H&M, and Bakers

Just a quick run through of the products:

As I've already mentioned in the video, I am a big fan of American Eagle denims. The quality is really good and the ones I own seem to last forever. I like the fact that this short is a bermuda short so I won't have to worry about whether the length is appropriate or not.

This loose plaid shirt is perfect for everyday casual wear. I love the weight of this and the texture is so soft. Great to pair with jeans or shorts and very low maintenance so I like that a lot.

A beautiful cropped shirt this one is. I just love the colors so much. This shirt reminds me a lot of my mom and I believe she has a shirt similar this one with the same color pattern as well. Lol. In the second picture I wanted to show you guys that the shirt is perfect length, but once I stretch my arms or anything then it does show my tummy so I would most likely wear a tank top underneath, but tucked in like I have in the picture.

I adore this dress so much and this is definitely a great addition to my closet. As you can see in the second picture, the bottom portion is so full and that is what I love about it. Pair it with some heels to dress it up, or just wear flats for a more casual look. Either way, it is still cute!

Even though I am pretty petite, I love long dresses. They elongate my legs and make me look a lot taller than 5'2. Like I mentioned in the video, this dress will look great with a brown belt wrapped around the mid-section to add a little pop of color or it can be worn as simple as in my picture.

My two basic buys from H&M; nude color tube top and navy cotton skirt. The top will be great to wear under shirts that need additional layering or under a cardigan, as for the skirt, it can be worn casual or if you have plans for a night out, just put on some heels to dress it up.

Last is this pink cardigan. Because without the cardigan, I am pretty bare so I really like this addition to the outfit. It makes the outfit more wearable and appropriate. This outfit will look great with both heels or flats.

Since I used self-timer to take my photos, it couldn't capture my whole body and I forgot to take separate photos of the shoes so forgive me! I hope you guys enjoyed my haul and until next time, take care! =D

Easy 3 Minute Side Bun

Sorry, I've been away for almost two weeks now. Like I mentioned in one of my latest video/blog, I've been so busy lately, working and running errands, trying to get things submitted before their due dates, and the list goes on and on. It will surely, yet slowly die down a little I hope.

I've been trying to stay away from heat tools whenever possible to improve the health of my hair. I have thick and slightly wavy hair so I used to always straighten my hair everyday when I was still in school. It will usually take me a good 15 minutes to straighten my hair and now with the really high southern temperatures, I'm always sweating like crazy while at it, but this new hair style takes literally 3 minutes to do only. I came up with a messy side bun and I have been loving it so much, it is definitely my everyday hairdo now.

Usually whenever I have a messy do, I would pin my strands of hair to create the messy effect and I'll end up using well over 15 bobby pins. This hairstyle, because I braided it first, pulling on the braid causes the messy effect and I only need about 5 bobby pins to pin the hair away.

It's messy, but it still looks nice and with the correct hair accessory to dress it, you can transform it into a formal hair style.

Hope you all enjoyed! ;)

Spring Nails: Daisies

I was going through some magazine clippings I collected last year for decorating ideas and I came across some daisies which are one of my favorite flowers. They are so pretty in the many different colors they come in and the simplicity of the flower is what I love most.

Here is my daisy Spring nail tutorial. I hope that you guys enjoy it!

Greek Goddess Transformation

The other day my sister and I were talking about Greek goddesses and which one we wanted to be if we could choose. I told her that since there wasn't any that fit my personality well enough, if I could be a goddess of anything, I'll be the Goddess of Happiness.

Well, that conversation inspired me to make this hair tutorial. It's simple, yet elegant and innocent. If I was a goddess, this is probably how I would look like. Haha.. This is mainly a Spring hairstyle that could be worn during the warm weather to embrace your long hair. I hope you guys like it!

Note: I am wearing my 20" hair extensions.

Products mentioned:
Paddle Brush
Bobby pins
L'Oréal Elnett Hairspray
Hot Tools 1" curling iron

All hail, Goddess Maikia has come back to Earth! =P

Before I leave I just want to say thank you to all those who have been watching my videos and viewing my blog. Even though it may not be thousands of people, it still makes me very happy and it inspires me to continue making tutorials to share with you all! ;)

Mac Mini Haul

I purchased some items from Mac yesterday and I just wanted to share my mini haul. It's been a good five months since I've bought anything from Mac so I just had to go there. I got two blushes, an eyeshadow brush, gel liner, and concealer.

The video pretty much speaks for itself, but below is just a quick run through of the products.

The one to the right is the powder blush in Peachykeen and the one to the left is the mineralize blush in Danity. The camera didn't pick up their true colors so both of the blushes look almost identical, but in person Peachykeen is a little bit on the red side and just like its name, it has a peach/coral tone to it. As for Danity, it is a pink blush with swirls of gold. These two blushes will be great for spring/summer!

This is the 217 blending brush. The bristles are very soft and dense; perfect for getting into the crease.

Okay, so if you've watched my video, you would know that I wasn't a very big fan of the Mac liquid liner. It always clumped up and fell off every time I went in to make a second stroke so I have been using the Maybelline Line Stiletto liquid liner and it has been so much better than the Mac liquid liner. I have always wanted to try a gel liner so I decided to give the Fluidline in Blacktrack a try.

The last item is the Studio Sculpt Concealer. I've been trying to find a good concealer for the longest and since I've been hearing very good things about this concealer I wanted to see for myself if it is as good as they say. I'm hoping this concealer will be great for the under eye area.

That's about it for my mini haul. I can't wait to try everything out to see how good or bad they are. My fingers are crossed that none of these items are bad, but even if they are, I am still in luck because Mac has a very good return policy. I am planning to start makeup tutorials soon so be on the look out for it. Have a great day everyone!

Hello Spring!

Thank goodness I live in the south so spring comes early for us. It's such an exciting season for me! It's so beautiful and I can get me some vitamin D! Lately, every time I go shopping, I've been seeing floral prints everywhere and I just want to purchase all of them! But, I am resisting from going all out because style is constantly changing.

Yesterday was a beautiful day so I took some pictures to share with you guys my first Spring 2011 look/outfit of the day. Of course it's nothing special and I was home alone like usual so I used self timer that's why it cuts off at my knees. I would have done an outfit of the day video instead, but I don't have a full size mirror yet so maybe next time.

Everything I am wearing was purchased from my favorite store: Forever 21.
Like I mentioned earlier, florals are a big hit this spring. I love the sheer blouse. The creme color with burgundy and light pink/peach print fits in with the birth of spring perfectly. The lace on the chest accentuates the top. Nothing too heavy; perfect for warm weather. I paried it with regular denim shorts which you can never go wrong with! I'm wearing my baby pink seashell earrings from my Forever 21 accessories haul. Lastly, side-pinned bouncy waves/curls are very fun and flirty. To me, spring is all about lightweight clothes because it's hot and I don't want my clothes to be bothering me by adding heat.

Well, I made a tutorial on how to achieve the look in my pictures but I'm not sure if I am going to upload it since it's pretty basic and easy; neutral eyes and pink lips with curls pinned to one side. We'll see if I decide to put it up in the next few days or not.

PS -
I think peach and pink are my colors this spring. Those two colors have been very appealing to me. ;)

Blue Nails with Black and Silver Stripes

Hi everyone! Today is a very gloomy day in the south. I couldn't sleep at all last night and was up until 3 a.m. which was when it started raining and it hasn't stopped. On the bright side, spring is definitely coming. We've been having really nice warm weather in the 70's lately so I cannot complain. I hope all of you in other parts of the world are experiencing some nice weather as well! My heart goes out to Japan as they are recovering from the earthquake and tsunami. May God be with each and everyone who has lost a loved one and/or are suffering from the natural disaster that occurred last Friday.

Here is the nail tutorial on my nails in my haul video. This is a bold, yet sophisticated look. Even though it is very simple, the silver and black stripes adds a pop of color and gives it more dimension.

A very special thanks to my sister for providing her piano pieces for my videos.

Note: I apologize for the angle of the video. I know you can barely see when I am creating the stripes. I didn't notice that until later on during editing. I will make sure the view is better for future videos ;)

Products used:
OPI Natural Nail Base Coat
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polish in Blue It
Kiss Nail Art Paint in Black
Kiss Nail Art Paint in Silver
OPI Top Coat

The Sally Hansen polish in Blue It was very thick so I had to carefully take my time while painting. The color was really pretty in the bottle and since I've never used it in the 4-5 months that I've had it, I decided to give it a try in this tutorial. The consistency was very thick so it took longer than the usual to dry.

Faux Bob/Messy Updo

Hi everyone! This tutorial is of a messy updo much similar to Taylor Swift and many other celebrities' faux bob on the red carpet. It's quick and easy. It's perfect for a date or night out. You don't need to be a hair stylist to achieve this look. I hope you guys enjoy it!

Note: I didn't use any hairspray because my curls usually stay put without any, but you may need it depending on your hair type.

Products used:

Paddle brush
Croco clips
Bobby pins
Hot Tools 1" curling iron

Disclaimer: All products mentioned in the video were purchased with my own money.

Below are a few pictures that I took with the finished look. I apologize that my pictures are quite dark because towards the wrap up of my tutorial, my battery died so I had to charge my battery and by the time it finished it was around 5 pm already. Also, my apartment lighting is super dark. I don't know whether it's due to the type of light bulbs that were installed or what, but this will do for now.

Also, before I go, I just wanted to let you guys know that the other day I purchased a few accessories from Forever21 and I will be doing a haul video of all the goodies I got once it arrives. It's expected date is this Thursday so I'll have the haul video up by Friday, hopefully. Until then, take care! ;)

Pink Glitter Tip Nails

My first tutorial is pink glitter tip nails. This look is extremely cute and pretty. It's prefect for any special occasions such as a wedding or prom. You can also wear them on a regular basis and it will still look good. The best part is it's super easy to do!

A clearer look:

Products mentioned:

OPI Who Needs a Prince
ORLY VIP mini bottle
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat

OPI Who Needs a Prince is a very pretty, yet sheer milky pink nail polish. You will need multiple coats in order to achieve the color in the bottle. I did two coats, but you can add more as you like. I say three coats max.

Remember to wait between each application to let the nail polish fully dry before moving onto the next step.

If you decide to try it out, let me know how you liked it!
